Angels

I have a story I HAVE to share from today... I was leaving Talbots today, pushing my stroller, with Gabe sitting in his carrier positioned in the stroller.. it's one of those car to stroller carrier systems... headed to my car parked over by TJ MAxx... due to pick up Jayce in 15 minutes from mother's morning out, so I was definitely briskly walking... probably too briskly... Gabe's carrier flipped out of the stroller backwards and he tumbled onto the cement in his carrier... upside down... I freaked out, started crying and fell down to the ground to pick him up... he was screaming and I just held him and started rocking back and forth and COULD NOT stand up... i was so scared that he was going to be SO hurt... 4 people in the parking lot jumped out of their cars and came to help me put up my stroller, hold my bags, speed dial my pediatrician, and even hold Gabe while I talked to them... it was so nice of them b/c i really did lose it for a little while... Gabe is ok, slight bruise on his forehead from where he barely hit the ground... he has acted himself all day and his pupils are fine... but man, that was scary... I truly believe that little fella has got some angels watching over him... I am so thankful to God for keeping him safe and this made me realize once again how much I take the safety and health of my boys for granted...
If anyone ever does this with your carriers... be careful, and make sure it's locked in all the way... And,don't forget to thank God for watching over your children! I cannot thank him enough!

ALSO, on a lighter note... Gabe and Jayce got to stay with mimi and papa last weekend for Jay and I to go to our marriage retreat... we came back after a long weekend to a much bigger Gabe it seemed! Mimi had really gotten him into his solids and he went from spitting them out to reaching for them and opening his mouth like a little bird! He LOVES them! I am giving him fruit usually for breakfast and lunch and then a veggie for dinner, along with me feeding him still 5 times a day usually... he is sleeping super, 2 2-2 1/2 hr naps and 8-7:30 usually at night... LOVE this schedule!

Jayce now has gotten his big boy bunkbeds and is doing great on those! Of course we removed the ladder and he did ask the first time he saw them if he could climb up there, but after we said no, he's kind of ignored them now, so that's good... I will post pictures of his big boy room which is FINALLY complete once I get a new cable to replace my old one that decided to quit working...

6 month stats and THAT Jayce!

so, Gabe's measurements from his 6 month appointment are: weight: 17 lbs, 13 ozs, and height 27.5 inches... He is a about 1 1/2 lbs more and 1 inch longer than Jayce was at his 6 mt appointment... as I've said before, Jayce had better watch out! and stop with the I'm gonna pull your head off comments! Actually, we've not had any more of those lately... His new thing is to come lay down on the floor beside him, give him a great big bear hug around his neck, and say, "I love you Gabe." Yesterday, he told him "you're my best brother." Jayce really does love his little bro... Any time Gabe makes a peep when he's awaking from his nap, Jayce says, I gotta go get Gabe and jets up to his room, and before I can even start heading up the stairs, he has closed his door, and climbed in his crib and is pretending to be asleep with his arm around him once I walk in... it is so sweet... I just have to make sure I'm following right behind him!
Jayce asks all the time if they can sleep together and I told him it won't be long... actually, about 2 years... but that will fly I'm sure..

We just got Jayce a "big boy bed"... FINALLY! We've been sleeping on a crib mattress on the floor ever since he started diving out of his crib 2 weeks after Gabe was born... how sad is that... but hey, he has slept, and we wanted to be sure to find just the right bed... So, we've gotten bunk beds... with a full on bottom and twin on top... They separate, and the plan for now is to just put the bottom bed in Jayce's room until we are confident he won't use the top as a diving board once we lock the door for nap time... With the full on the bottom, we figure they can share a bed, if they do want to share a room, until Jayce is ready to go up top... I'm so excited to finally pull our golf bedding out of the closet, that we ordered over a year ago for his big boy room!

Funny Jayce stories:

I was feeding Gabe the other day in a rocking chair, and he said he wanted to sit with us, I told him there was not enough room in that chair ... So, he remedied the situation, and drug his rocking chair from his room to Gabe's room and pulled it up beside us, then he grabbed a stuffed frog in Gabe's nursery and said, "froggy is hungry too, I'm gonna feed him with my "punk" (which is his term for mommy's breast pump)...he's a little confused on this whole concept... he shoved him up under his arm for about 2 seconds and then declared he was done and threw him down on the ground... It was quite funny!

The other day we were having Jayce's little friends over to play in the yard one afternoon... I was rushing around trying to get the house to not look like a cyclone had run through it... and Jayce all the sudden had a huge blow out... I get his diaper off and get him wiped off and ready to throw in the tub, just as Gabe decides to follow in his big brother's foot steps, so then I go to work on Gabe and look around to see that Jayce is no where to be found... I look all around the house, calling for him and no answer, then I see the back door wide open... he had run outside.. in his birthday suit, and was climbing up onto his swing set... Of course 2 neighbors are stopped at the stop sign directly facing our back yard and get to see my naked child get hauled inside from the 50 degree weather... that always makes ya feel like a great mom!

Happy 1/2 Year to Gabe! (one week late!)

Well, I am, of course, late in writing this...which comes as no surprise to anyone who knows me! It is so hard to believe that Gabe is 1/2 year old, as of February 1st, 6 months... and I still feel like I'm always trying to catch up! Anyhow, Happy 1/2 year to him! Gabe is still the sweetest baby, and still so laid back for the most part... although he is starting to be a little more vocal about his likes and dislikes...
He is still sleeping great, as long as he is in his crib... he LOVES that crib, and when his head hits the mattress, he sticks that thumb in his mouth, and starts sucking away, and is usually out within seconds... he is so great at getting himself to sleep, which makes life much easier when I have a 2 year old (almost 3 year old) on my heels! He still actually takes about 3-4 naps on a normal day, if we are at home... but he's becoming much less likely to sleep while we're out in public... especially b/c everytime we get into a store, someone will come up, even if he is covered up, and pull up the blanket or canopy over his head and say... aww... how sweet, he's sleeping... and as politely as I can, I will say, yes, I'm hoping he stays like this, so I can get some shopping done... and they KEEP ON until he wakes up, never fails... Anyhow, he is definitely past that sleep anywhere stage... I'm trying to get him to where he needs fewer naps a day, as it would be easier for us to get somehwere out and about in between them... hoping that will come soon, but for now, he likes his sleep... Still sleeps great at night, usually 8-7:30.

He is doing better with solids... still not a fan of rice cereal, but loves bananas! Yes, I know you're supposed to start with veggies, but that never helped Jayce at all, who has JUST now started liking veggies... and I was tired of being rejected, so we skipped straight to the good stuff... plus I was becoming worried the child would never eat solids, and just needed to make sure!

The things I love about Gabe at this stage:

His BLUE blue eyes that stare at me so sweetly!
The way he holds my face with his hands
the way he tries to give me open mouth kisses every time I'm holding him near my face!
The way he grabs his toes and is always pulling his feet up when he's lying down, it's so cute!
The way he laughs so hard when I kiss his tickle spot, on the side of his neck and when he sees his silly brother do about anything!
the way he grabs hold of anything hear his mouth and SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS... he is definitely teething!
the way he grins SO BIG when he sees me stand over his crib... he is such a flirt!
the way that he calms down when fussy, if I sing him his song... he loves it!

This past 6 months has flown by way too quickly for me... I have LOVED every part of being Gabriel's mommy!

Jayce is doing great, and I'll write more on him next time, I'm sure you're tired of reading my novel at this point! I'll post some pics next time too!
